Our video for today is pre-recorded on the topic of “How To Survive and Thrive After Your Loved One’s Mental Breakdown”. Coach Donna Marie gives you five key tips so you can stay healthy as you support your loved one through their own mental health journey. These tips will help you so that after some stability is achieved, you can hopefully recover quicker whenever new challenges arise. If you are a caregiver to someone dealing with chronic, severe mental illness challenges, or if you love someone else who is this type of caregiver, please pass this on. Also… I know that I do not have all of the answers here, so, if you want to contribute to this conversation in a positive way, leave a comment so we can support one another.
Get therapy for yourself and for your family, too, if possible. Listen to the episode to hear my insights on how to get access to good care that works for you.
Keep learning, especially how to understand yourself and be more compassionate with yourself. I talked about this more in a prior episode regarding World Mental Health Awareness Day.
Set healthy boundaries, see book recommendations below. And get relationship coaching to set SMART goals for this area of your life and get results you have longed for, click here to enroll in coaching.
Build and consistently plug-in with your community. Support groups are available at local churches and through NAMI and other organizations, many of which are by phone so you don’t have to be in person to attend.
Pay attention to financial matters impacted by this journey and let go of money shame. I also discussed this in episode 10 in more detail.
How can black women leaders understand themselves better and make better choices so they will live more happily and have more joy in relationships of all types, personally and professionally? Getting past perfectionism and shame, while also learning how to be more compassionate to self and others are keys to this.

“Just because a caregiver is grieving over a loved one who has a chronic illness or has passed on, does not mean that they need to give up on their life and their dreams.”
